I hope that everyone had a great Halloween. Although they weren't the scariest, some costumes that caught my eye were the angry birds from Rovio's hit mobile game. I have been an avid angry birds player for some time, but what its presence at Halloween festivities reinforced to me was the prominence of mobile phones in our society and what that means for the future of marketing. If you want your business to succeed, you better be ready to compete when it comes to mobile marketing.

mobile marketing

According to eMarketer, the US mobile web population is going to grow by almost 25% this year. By 2015 almost half the US population will be using the mobile internet. With increased mobile internet usage comes increased mobile ad spending. Mobile ad spending will reach $1.23 billion in 2011, and grow to 4.4 billion by 2015.

Not only are people accessing the internet from their phones more, but they are also turning to other devices like tablets to communicate, network, browse and shop. This is yet another reality that is adding to the fragmentation in the business listings space. Whether someone is searching for your business from the computer, a mobile phone or a tablet they need to be able to find your business. They also should be fairly confident that the business information listed is actually correct.
