Social Media Updates Are Now Visible on Google Business Profile

Google is no stranger to pulling information from other sites to enhance their own search experience: for example, Google already showcases ratings and reviews from other sites like Facebook. (You might even recall the news from late last year when Google started adding Social Media links to Business Profiles.)

Now, we've reached the next phase of this iteration: Google is featuring social media updates directly on Business Profiles.

What Changed?

Google will start pulling social posts from the social media profiles you have added to your Google Business Profile (GBP) listings — and feature them in the Social Media Updates section on your Google Business Profile.

What does this look like? Currently, it's only available on mobile. You'll find linked posts included on your Business Profile underneath the core business information, menu information, reviews, popular times, and questions & answers in the updates section. For example:

Remember, in the 2023 fall release, we added support for syncing social media links for the following platforms:

  • Facebook

  • Instagram

  • LinkedIn

  • Pinterest

  • TikTok

  • X (formerly known as Twitter)

  • YouTube

That's where Google will be pulling these posts from. On Desktop, those profiles appear on your Google listings below core business Information, reviews, popular times, and the business description, as seen below:

What does this change mean for you?

In short, it means that it's more important than ever to post engaging content on all platforms.

Google will still promote and show posts you make via Google Local Posts, but your Business Profile will now include posts from your linked social media profiles as well. There's no guarantee that all posts from the other sites will be shown on your GBP listing, but this could potentially increase the reach of your posts from other sites.

In other words, the update simply makes your social media profiles and posts more discoverable on Google — making it even more important to post authentic content to your brand's local social pages often so consumers can discover and engage with your business. It's a great reminder that your social profiles are an important part of your digital presence — and with this expanded cross-channel reach, managing them is key to standing out (and making connections with more customers).

If you are a Yext customer, continue to use our Social product to post on Google, Apple, and Facebook, and we will keep you up to date when we add more social channels that you can leverage later this year.
